Mission San Xavier del Bac sunset

Mission San Xavier (pronounced as "hauv-e-air") del Bac is located just seven miles south of Tucson. Today's church was built from 1783 - 1797. A number of mysteries surround the construction of this church. Why was the east tower never completed is still unknown. Several theories exist about why it was left unfinished, including one that a worker fell to his death and no one would climb the tower afterwards.

Gates Pass at Sunrise

Gates Pass is popular sightseeing location, especally at sunset. Gates Pass is just a short drive west of Tucson. There is plently parking so it is a great place to stop and go for a quick hike or climb. I recommend that you stay and watch the sun go down.

 

Cactus forest at twilight

Saguaro National Park West. The park is located in the heart of the hot, dry Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona just west of Tucson. Giant saguaro cacti (pronounced suh-WAR-ohs), unique to the Sonoran Desert, can sometimes reach a height of 50 feet and weigh more than 8 tons.


Honeybee Canyon

Honeybee Canyon is a perfect place to take the family for day hike. The canyon meanders through a dry wash bed, surrounded by gaint saguaros and interesting rock formations. The 2 mile round trip hike takes about 1 1/2 hour. But you can pack a lunch and may a day of it.
