Landscape Pictures In Charlevoix Michigan

Evening reflections of the Charlevoix

Lighthouse and south pier.
The lighthouse is located on the south pier at the end of the Pine River, marking the entrance to Round Lake and Lake Charlevoix from Lake Michigan. The current structure replaced the original wooden structure in 1948. The automated light is powered by a solar panel on the front of the tower.

Earl Young Stone Houses of Charlevoix

Earl Young was not an architect by degree - he was self-taught. He moved to Charlevoix when he was ten and began to collect stones along the lake shore, quarries and fields. After he married in 1915, he began to design and build houses out of stone, many of which came from his lifelong passion of collecting stones. He never used a blueprint.

Charlevoix Drawbridge

The Memorial Bridge may be Charlevoix's most notable landmark and attraction. The bridge spans the Pine River which connect Lake Michigan to Round Lake. The bridge opens every half-hour during the summer to let boats leave and enter Round Lake. Several different bridges have crossed the river since 1869. The current structure was completed in 1949.

East Park and Round Lake

Downtown Charlevoix and East Park overlook the Round Lake yacht basin. The lush green East Park is the site of many major events, including the Apple Festival, Venetian Festival and Waterfront Art Fair. A collection of bands perform free concerts on many evenings during the summer from Odmark Pavilion in the park.

Downtown Charlevoix the Beautiful

Charlevoix's unique charm makes it a popular destination for travelers from all over the world. In addition to beautiful natural setting, the area offers wonderful restaurants, shopping, boating, golf and fall colors. Charlevoix is one of the few remaining downtowns with an operating drawbridge.

Charlevoix Historical Society

Housed in a restored Victorian home, the Charlevoix Historical Society and Harsha House Museum contain hundreds of historic photos and documents from all different eras of Charlevoix.
